The type of medication used by the traditional healers were roots, leaves, fruits, barks etc of several species of plants such as ginger, star fruit, spinach and watermelon. Fifty percent on the patients revealed that they were recovered from the disease after visiting traditional healers. The number of patients who finished high school in DKI, Yogyakarta and Surabaya were respectively 48%, 74.3% and 42.2%. The total respondent were 75 rheumatic patients and 24 traditional healers. Data collections were done through interviews as well as structured interviews to the healers chosen by the patients. Respondents were those who were suffering with rheumatism who sought traditional medication and have visited traditional healers at least twice. In this study data on the behaviour of consumer towards the services of the traditional healer was also collected. The objective of the study was to find out whether traditional healer was able to heal the disease. Study on traditional medication towards diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure and rheumatism has been conducted in Health Ecology Research and Development Centre in 1998/1999 (1st phase).
